John Charles “Chuck” Hoy, 74, of Mechanicsville, entered his eternal home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 19th at 11:00 am in the Christian Community Church, 307 E. 1st Street, Mechanicsville, Iowa. A time of visitation will be from 9:30 until the start of the service. Lunch will follow in the basement of the church and final graveside rites will conclude at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville. John was born John Charles Hoy on January 20, 1951 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John William Hoy and Elaine Barbara Mathews Hoy. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970 and Upper Iowa University in 1974. On June 18, 1983 he was united in marriage to Teri Ellen Sterner in Lisbon, Iowa. Chuck was a self-employed contractor for most of his working life. He became know for barn restoration in addition to most any type of building or remodeling. He was even listed on an Iowa historical barn website!
Chuck is survived by his wife, Teri Hoy; children, Jonna Hoy and Mathew (Shannon) Hoy; their children, Hailey and Aubreigh Hoy, Harrison, Dakota and Deckard Hoy; mother, Elaine Hoy; siblings, Mike and Terry Hoy, Danny and Lora Hoy, Vicki and Tom Pruess, Sandy and Troy Cook and their families. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, John Hoy, his grandparents, Ora and Violet Hoy and Bret and Hazel Mathews, and his in-laws, John and Pat Sterner.
