John Albert Schott, 75, of Tipton, Iowa, unexpectedly passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on March 1, 2026.
John was born on July 8, 1950, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Robert Eugene and Margery Ann (Arnold) Schott.
On April 27, 1973, John was united in marriage to Kathy Ray Jorgenson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tipton. They shared over 52 years of marriage together.
John was a lifelong farmer, spending more than 50 years on the family farm in Tipton. He attended Tipton Community Schools and later Muscatine Community College, earning a degree in Agri-Business. His life was rooted in hard work, faith, and dedication to his family and the land he so deeply loved. John lived the life described in the familiar words, “So God made a farmer” — steady, faithful, hardworking, and humble — and his love for the farm remained at the heart of who he was.
A devoted Catholic, John was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tipton. His faith guided his life and shaped his servant leadership. He was a member and past board member and president of the Tipton Country Club. John also served as a Farm Service board member, West Center Township Trustee, Farm Bureau member, and a member of the Cedar County Eminent Domain Commission. Through these roles, he quietly gave back to the community he loved.
John honorably served in the United States Army Reserves as an engineer from 1970 to 1976.
John is survived by his wife, Kathy Schott of Tipton; his son, Devon John Schott and daughter-in-law, Jessica; his grandson, Jaxson John Schott; his sisters, Karen Harmon, Melanie Langley, and Mary Sue Schott; and his brothers, Ron Schott, Kenny Schott, and Tom Schott.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John’s greatest pride was farming alongside his family — three generations working the same land together. His legacy lives on in Kathy, Devon, Jessica, and Jaxson, and in the fields he so faithfully tended.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the funeral home, with Father James Flattery officiating. Interment will follow at Woodbridge Cemetery, and family and friends are invited to gather afterward for a luncheon at St. Mary’s Hall.
Memorials will be received and directed by the family in honor of John’s expressed wishes.
