John David Thumma, 56, of Rochester, passed into eternity on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at his home (1873 1st Street, Tipton, Iowa 52772) starting at 2:00 pm until ??? All family and friends are invited to attend. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been created in John’s memory and may be sent directly to his residence. John was born on Tuesday, February 16, 1965 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Bob and Betty Thumma and was raised on the farm north of Rochester. John graduated from Tipton High School with the Class of 1983. After high school he attended mechanics school in Waterloo and then went to work for Winebrenners for a brief period of time and then worked construction, farmed with Bob, and eventually became a millwright for 25 years out of Local 2158 based out of the Quad Cities. On September 19, 1992, John was united in marriage to Rebecca Lynn Boll in Trinity Lutheran Church, Tipton. Together they made their home on the river in Rochester. John loved to fish, snowmobile, skeet shoot, and do just about anything outdoors. His favorite car was his midnight blue Mustang fastback. John is lovingly survived by his wife, Becky, his stepson, Jason Spies, 3 granddaughters, Phoenix, Pantera and Meika, his brothers-in-law, Barry Boll and Bill Boll, his parents, Bob and Betty Thumma, his sisters, Judy Thumma-Youngs, Nancy Gagner (Chris Urmie), his brother, Mark (Deb) Thumma; several nieces and nephews; and his two life-long friends, Warren Wethington and Ron Elijah.
