Kay Karolie Leighty, 77, Tipton, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. There will a celebration of life service Monday, March 28th, at 11:00 am, First United Church of Christ, Tipton. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am, also at the church. A memorial fund in Kay's honor has been established. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Kay's life journey began February 6, 1939, in Clarence, Iowa, where she was born to Melvin and Helen (Kelly) Hasselbusch. Kay graduated from Clarence High School with the class of 1957 before attending and graduating from Iowa State Teachers College. She was united in marriage to the late William Edward Leighty in 1961, also in Clarence. Kay was a 2nd grade teacher in Tipton for 39 years, prior to her retirement. She also taught Sunday school and Bible School and conducted church services at the Cedar County Home. Kay was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Tipton. Kay is survived by her brother, Robert (Arlynn) Hasselbusch; brother-in-laws, Russ (Mary Jo) Leighty, Jerry Leighty; sister-in-law, Donna Andresen and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister-in-law, Jeanette "Bobbie" Williams.
