Lane A. Hanon

August 20, 1975 — November 7, 2023

Tipton

Lane Ashley Hanon of Tipton, Iowa died November 7, 2023 at UIHC in Iowa City. His body has been cremated and there will be a celebration of life held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the First United Church of Christ in Tipton where the family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 am and services will begin at 11:00 followed by a noon luncheon and burial afterwards at the Red Oak Cemetery north of Tipton.

Lane was the son of Larry and Jean Goodman Hanon and was born August 20, 1975 in Des Moines, Iowa. At 10 months of age Lane moved with his family from Urbandale, Iowa to Tipton in June 1976 where he would reside the next 30 years. He then lived in Iowa City for 14 years and then returned to Tipton for the last 4 years.

Lane attended and graduated from Tipton Schools. In high school he ran cross country, wrestled, played golf, and participated in school plays. Lane attended Kirkwood College and Muscatine Community College. As a young boy Lane attended and later joined the United Church of Christ where his membership is today.

Lane spent a great deal of his working life in food services starting at the Cove Restaurant at age 15 washing dishes and busing tables. Later he did full-service cooking and food preparation, served guests and managed shifts. He cooked at Perkins in Coralville for a year and worked at Hy-Vee in Iowa City for a year. He helped open Bandana’s BBQ in Coralville cooking and serving customers for 6 years until the business closed when the new arena purchased the real estate where the restaurant was located. Lane also worked at McGregor’s Furniture in Coralville and for a time at Walmart in Tipton.

While living in the Iowa City/Coralville area Lane became involved with theater and was cast in a number of plays in the Iowa City theaters.

Lane was easy to like and made many friends. He traveled some in his early adult years. He liked to read, to party and visit. He loved to cook and enjoyed movies and Trivia nights. He had a kind heart and a mischievous smile and liked to laugh at silly things that he or others did. He was a hard and dependable worker. He will be missed by many.

He is survived by his parents; sisters Nicki (Matt Smith) & Anjie (Tracey Emanuel); nieces and nephews Margeen, Shon, & Corrin (Cody Saliba) Urmie and Isaiah, Aiden & Malachi Emanuel; and grandnieces Stella & Iris Wood.

Lane was an animal lover so a memorial in his name has been established for Friends Of The Animals Shelter in Tipton.
