Larry Lee Childs, 73, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 following a 3 year battle with cancer. Graveside services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Tipton, Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Paul Frederiksen officiating. Urn bearers are Steve Childs, Mike Childs, and Mark Childs. Family will receive friends from 1-3 pm, prior to the service Saturday at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Tipton Public Library in memory of Larry. On-line condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Larry was born January 12, 1938, the son of Herbert Chester and Lillian Kathleen Baker Childs. He was a 1956 graduate of Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and attended tech school in Texas. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 - 1960. On July 31, 1965 he was united in marriage to Sandra Lee Moss at the First United Methodist Church in Tipton. Larry was employed as a railroad auditor for Western Weighing & Inspection Bureau. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Larry is survived by his mother, Lillian Burke of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; wife, Sandra Childs of Tipton, Iowa; daughters, Stacy (Steve) Emrich of Tipton, Iowa, Stephanie (Bob) Ruby of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; grandchildren, Darby, Indigo, Ben, Tiger; brothers, Steve (Theha) Childs of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mike (Hattie) Childs of Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii, Mark (Pam) Childs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a niece, Doveanna (Shawn) Lekin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, Herb Childs, step-father, Moe Burke; and a sister, Sherri Childs.
