Larry Lee Childs

Larry Lee Childs, 73, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 following a 3 year battle with cancer. Graveside services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Tipton, Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Paul Frederiksen officiating. Urn bearers are Steve Childs, Mike Childs, and Mark Childs. Family will receive friends from 1-3 pm, prior to the service Saturday at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Larry was born January 12, 1938, the son of Herbert Chester and Lillian Kathleen Baker Childs. He was a 1956 graduate of Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and attended tech school in Texas. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 - 1960. On July 31, 1965 he was united in marriage to Sandra Lee Moss at the First United Methodist Church in Tipton. Larry was employed as a railroad auditor for Western Weighing & Inspection Bureau. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Larry is survived by his mother, Lillian Burke of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; wife, Sandra Childs of Tipton, Iowa; daughters, Stacy (Steve) Emrich of Tipton, Iowa, Stephanie (Bob) Ruby of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; grandchildren, Darby, Indigo, Ben, Tiger; brothers, Steve (Theha) Childs of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mike (Hattie) Childs of Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii, Mark (Pam) Childs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a niece, Doveanna (Shawn) Lekin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, Herb Childs, step-father, Moe Burke; and a sister, Sherri Childs.
