Funeral services will be at 10:30AM on Friday, August 14, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville with an additional time for visitation from 9:30-10:30AM, the hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials should be designated to the First United Methodist Church in Larry's honor. Larry was born February 25, 1942, the son of Arthur and Evelyn (Wilke) Sulzner, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Mechanicsville High School Class of 1960. After high school, Larry served in the Navy for 3 years. Following his Navy service, Larry farmed their multi-generational farmland. He also was a mail carrier for 25 years. Larry was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville, where he volunteered and served in numerous capacities. After Larry retired, he enjoyed spending his winter months in Florida. Larry was always giving to others, be it Tipton Bakery crescent rolls or tomatoes from his garden, or shoveling snow off neighbors walks. He was quite the "collector," never passing up a good bargain. As Larry went through different challenges in life, his faith grew. Pancreatic cancer was his greatest challenge, which he conquered. Next to his faith, the most important thing in Larry's life, was his family whom he cherished spending time with. Larry was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Larry is survived by his daughters, Brandi (Brandon) Sissel of Stanwood, and Amber (Jacob) Christianson of Murfreesboro, TN; son, Chad Sulzner (Toni Pollard) of Mechanicsville; sisters, Janet (Gary) Driscoll of Cedar Rapids, and Nancy (Gary) Scorpil of Tipton; brothers, Gary Sulzner of Tipton, Keith (Kate) Sulzner of Iowa City, and Kevin (Janine) Sulzner of Anamosa; grandchildren, Aksel, Chad Jr., Alana, Chloe, Jade, Braden, Bryce, and Braylin; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn (Wilke) Sulzner. The family would like to thank all the special friends and family who helped get Larry to and from his doctor's appointments, kept him well-fed, and took the time to visit him. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
