Laverne Wood

Laverne Alvin Wood was born May 11, 1922 to Howard E. and Hazel McEwon Wood in Mechanicsville, Iowa. He was a 1939 graduate of Tipton High School. LaVerne was united in marriage to Geneva Worrell in 1942, they later divorced. On July 3, 1968, he married Irene Paustian. LaVerne was a lifetime farmer who loved and respected the soil and the John Deere equipment he used. He was a member of the Tipton United Methodist Church, Ducks Unlimited and the Tipton Lions Club. LaVerne is survived by his wife, Irene Wood of Tipton, Iowa; daughters, Eileen Wehde and husband, Harry of Tipton, Iowa, Maureen Angelini and husband, Mark of Wichita, Kansas, Kathy Wagner and husband, Mike of Tipton, Iowa; sons, Robert Wood and wife, Linda of Nichols, Iowa Kevin Wood and wife, Chris of Tipton, Iowa; step-children, Susan Thumma and husband, Gary of Stanwood, Iowa, Allen Paustina and wife, Becky of Tipton, Iowa; 26 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and sister, Bonnie Pauls of Mechanicsville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lloyd Wood. A memorial has been established in memory of LaVerne.
