Leona Schnack

Leona Minnie Gehrls Schnack was born on June 15, 1913, the daughter of Joe and Caroline Gehrls. She lived in the Lowden area until the age of three, when her family moved southeast of Bennett. She lived in that area much of her married life. On January 19, 1935 Leona married Reldo Schnack in Davenport, Iowa. She was a housewife who cared for her children and helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of Peace Church of Christ United in Bennett. Leona enjoyed her flowerbeds, sewing and quilting. She and Reldo also enjoyed the times they spent with friends and dancing together. Leona is loved and survived by her daughters, Karolyn and her husband, Donn Kleppe of Stanwood, Iowa and Belva and her husband, Duffy Schamberger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, Leon and his wife, Mary Kay Schnack of Port Orange, Florida; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joe Gehrls of Durant, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lena Gehrls; her husband, Reldo on December 23, 1999; and 3 brothers, Eldie, Elmer and Raymond. A memorial fund has been established in honor of Leona to Cedar Manor Nursing Home.
