Lester Eugene Sissel

Lester Eugene "Gene" Sissel, 87, of Tipton, died Monday April 25, 2011, Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 28, 1:00 PM, Trinity Lutheran Church, Tipton with Pastor Donnita Moeller, officiating. Organist will be Jan Penningroth. Burial will follow in Tipton Masonic Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Tipton VFW Post 2537 and the Tipton American Legion Post 123. Casket bearers will be Austin Lundberg, Adam Lundberg, Brad Adam, Darle Elkin, Steve Lundberg, Alvin Moeller, Lynn Phelps, and Wally Moeller. Honorary casket bearers are Mark Stueland, John Krob, Bob Wethington, Dick Moon, Elmer Harmel, Gina Adam, Morgan Sissel, and Matthew Sissel, Jr. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 27, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church. A memorial will be established in his memory for Trinity Lutheran Church and the Iowa City Hospice. Gene was born July 21, 1923 in Tipton, Iowa and was the son of William and Daisy Simons Sissel. Gene graduated from Tipton High School and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and then enlisted in the United States Army. On June 16, 1946 Gene was united in marriage Helen E. Moeller in Tipton. He was the parts manager for Davis Farm Equipment for 36 years and then worked as the parts manager for Stueland Auto for 10 years. Gene was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, past Moose Lodge member, past treasurer and Council member of Trinity Church, was a member of the "Friday Night Gang" for over 30 years and a past member of the "Investors Five" Card Club. Gene is survived by his wife, Helen of Tipton; daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Darle) Elkin of Webster City, Iowa and Shelly (Mrs. Steve) Lundberg of Des Moines, Iowa; son, Craig (Cheryl) Sissel of Spanaway, Washington; grandchildren, Adam Lundberg, Austin Lundberg, Gina (Brad) Adam, Morgan Sissel, and Matt (Kristina) Sissel; Great grandchildren, Matt Sissel, Jr., McKinsey Sissel and Alina Adam. He was preceded in death by his parents and all ten of his brothers and sisters.
