Lora Mae "Ike" Ward, 84, of Tipton, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015, at Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab Center in Mechanicsville, Iowa. Visitation for Ike will be held from 9-11AM, Monday, April 27, 2015 at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, Iowa. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11AM, also at Fry's. Ike will be laid to rest in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery at the conclusion of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks you to designate memorials to Care Initiative Hospice or Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab Center. Online condolences, memories, photos and videos may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Lora Mae was born August 12, 1930, daughter of George and Thelma (Morgan) Morris, in Boone, Iowa. She is a 1948 graduate of Boone High School. Ike went on to pursue nursing at Marshalltown Deaconess Hospital but decided to pursue other interests. On June 25, 1950, Ike married the love of her life, Richard Ward in Winterset, Iowa. Together they had three children, Linda, Robert and Richard III. Ike was a Deputy for the Cedar County Sheriff Department, but spent the majority of her working years as the Clerk for the City of Tipton. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tipton, Iowa. Ike is a past Grand Matron of the Eastern Star and had volunteered as a judge for the Cedar County Fair's Food Pantry entries. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She also enjoyed NASCAR and had a special love for the community theatre, where she performed a few times. Ike's husband, Dick, was her world and she spent most every moment of their nearly 65-year marriage lovingly at his side. Ike is survived by her husband, Dick of Mechanicsville, Iowa; daughter, Linda (Bob) Van Nostrand of Fairfield, Iowa; sons, Bob (Judy) Ward of Marion, Iowa, Richard (Kay) Ward III of Knoxville, Tennessee, and good friend, Gary Sulzner ("the 4th") of Tipton; sisters, JoAnn (Gene) Martin, Helen (Bob) Farr, Lois Steigerwalt, and Marilyn Moravetz; brothers, Warren (Deb) Morris, Paul Morris, Phil (Betty) Morris, and Gale (Judy) Morris; grandchildren, Sean (Mary) Hannes, Lyle (Josie) Hannes, Tracie Feeser, Toni (Clint) Drake, Elizabeth (Josh) Birdwell, and Kathryn (Rob) Sands; and great-grandchildren, Brittney, Brennan, Emily, Dylan, Victoria, Eric, Danielle, Jace, Teague, Keegan, Kolby, Jason and Chase. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George W. Morris, David Morris, and John D. Morris; sister-in-law, Shirley Morris; and brothers-in-law George Steigerwalt, and Kenny Moravetz.
