Mabel Mollie Walters

Funeral services for Mabel Mollie Walters, age 88, will be held at 10 am Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mount Ayr, Iowa. Mabel died peacefully surrounded by family on November 7, 2012 at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, Iowa. She was born on December 24, 1923 in Saltillo, Mississippi to Luther and Alice Petago. She married Francis Walters on January 7, 1946 in Lake Village, Arkansas. Mabel and Francis raised their 6 daughters on a farm near Ellston, Iowa. Mabel was a lover of nature, enjoying gardening and bird watching. She enjoyed the arts, especially classical music. Mabel's greatest love was being a mother and grandmother. After her children were school age, Mabel worked as a nurse's aide at Mount Ayr Health Care Center for many years. Mabel is survived by her daughters Mary (Charles), Meg (Phil), Theresa, Catherine (Jeff) and Joan (Mike), 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Sr. Carolyn Walters. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings, her husband and one daughter.
