Marie Catherine Emerson

Marie Catherine Emerson, 94, of Rochester, died December 14, 2015, at Crestview Nursing Home in West Branch, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 10:30 am, Rochester Methodist Church, Rochester, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015, from 4:00-7:00 pm, at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will be at West Branch Cemetery. Memorials, in honor of Marie, shall be directed to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Marie was born December 17, 1920, in Mt. Union, Pennsylvania to David and Nettie (Brewer) Horne. She attended rural country schools in Cedar County before attending Tipton High School. In 1939, Marie was united in marriage to Lyle Emerson, in Cedar County. Marie was a homemaker and cooked for several years at the Quadrangle at the University of Iowa. She was a member of the Rochester United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Eastern Star Juanita Chapter, and her love for genealogy was reflected as she was a member of the Historical Society. Marie is survived by her daughter, Maxine (Bill) Coiner, sons, Ronald (Sherry) Emerson and Glen (Brenda) Emerson, 9 grandchildren, 3, step grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and 3 step great-great grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, James, brothers, Donald and Darold, sisters, Edna, Ruby, Pearl, Mildred; special friend, Martin Osberg; special daughter, Jean Darrell and granddaughter, Tammy (Emerson) Habash.
