Visitation will be on Saturday, August 27 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be sent to Dean's family at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Dean Moore was born August 8, 1934 in Stanwood, Iowa. He was the son of Leo and Alice Moore. Dean graduated from Springdale High School in 1952. He lived in Wittier, California for a year after graduation. After his return to Iowa, Dean married Joyce Gaul in 1954 at the Little Brown Church. They were married 52 years until Joyce's passing. Dean worked at Wilson's in Cedar Rapids for 5 years and then farmed near Mechanicsville for over 40 years. Dean was one of the last small farmers in Cedar County, raising hogs, cows, corn and beans. His corn and bean fields were always clean, as he took great pride in that. Dean was a superb farmer and great mechanic. He could fix most anything with some baling wire and a pair of pliers. Dean built several dirt track stock cars in the mid-1960s with his good friend, Cy Bohr. Dean and Cy raced together for several years at Davenport, Hawkeye Downs and Tipton tracks. Dean will be remembered as always having a smile on his face and for never knowing a stranger, as he would talk to anyone. Dean also loved to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes play basketball. Dean's family includes his son Randy and his wife, Vonda from San Angelo, Texas, his daughter Sandy and her husband Jeff Blair from Kirkville, Iowa. Also surviving are his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Hal Harmet of Hinsdale, Illinois. Dean had six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his father-in-law and mother in-law, Vic and Helen Gaul and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Mark Nash. Special thanks go out to the Senior Care Nursing Home staff and the Hospice of San Angelo staff. The love and support they provided Dean in his final days was truly remarkable.
