Mary Aleen Driscoll

Aleen Wethington Driscoll, 94, of Mechanicsville, died peacefully Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton, Iowa, surrounded by her family. Funeral services celebrating Aleen's life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, Iowa. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. A memorial has been established in Aleen's honor. Aleen was born January 4, 1920 in Casey County, Clementsville, Kentucky, daughter of Harry and Ollie Clements Wethington. She moved to Iowa in 1921, with her parents and 2 older sisters, Bessie and Lucile so her dad could help his brother farm. In Iowa, 2 sons joined the family, Russell and Bob. Aleen remained in Cedar County the rest of her life. Aleen graduated from Tipton High School in 1938 and married Donald A. Driscoll on February 11, 1942. Together they had 6 children: John, Joan, Harry, Donna, Kevin and Dan. She was a homemaker and mother for many years. Later, she worked at The Pioneer Press for 15 years, retiring in 1976. Aleen was a member of St. Mary's Guild, Bridge Clubs, Pinochle Clubs, and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville. Aleen's family was very important to her and she had great love for them all. Aleen is survived by her children, Harry (Marcia) Driscoll of Mechanicsville, Donna (Wayne) Robinson of Mechanicsville, Kevin (Marcia) Driscoll of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Dan (Diana) Driscoll of Mechanicsville; son-in-law, Les Svatosch of Lisbon, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Joan Driscoll of Carrollton, Texas; brother, Bob Wethington; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Wethington and Marge Wethington; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grand-children and one on the way. Aleen was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ollie Wethington; husband, Donald; son, John Driscoll; daughter, Joan Svatosch; sisters, Lucile and Bessie; and brother, Russell.
