Virginia Cook, 100, of Tipton, finished her life’s journey on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 8:16 am in Prairie Hills Assisted Living with her family by her side. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 7th at 11:30 am, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tipton with Father Dennis Martin officiating. A public visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Following the luncheon, burial and concluding rites will be held in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Tipton. Mary Ruth Virginia Alberhasky, was born on January 20, 1922 in Iowa City. She was the daughter of Charles and Martha Zaloudek Alberhasky. ‘Virginia’, as she was known by, graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Iowa City in 1940. During WWII, Virginia and her friends often attended dances at the Red Ball Inn and danced with cadets. The Navy had a reserve in Iowa City and a young cadet by the name of Louie Cook was stationed there. Louie and Virginia were married on September 16, 1944 and eventually settled in Tipton where Virginia raised her 8 children and after the last child left home, she joined her husband as owner and operator of Cook’s Jewelry which operated in Tipton for 53 years. Virginia and Louie were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tipton since 1951. Cook’s Jewelry closed their doors in Tipton in 2006 after Louie died while wintering in Florida. The business continues today into the second and third generation in Iowa City with Steve Cook and his son, Ben Cook.
Virginia is survived by her 8 children; Louis Cook, Robert Steven (Cindy) Cook, Sherrie (John) Falkers, Nancy (Ted) Koerner, Susan (Jerry) Molitor, Michael (Deb) Cook, Linda (Eric) Gradeler and Christopher (Carmen) Cook; 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Louie, in 2006, , infant grandson, Robbie Cook, and her 5 brothers, Don, Dr. Robert, Bernard, John and James Alberhasky.
