Mearl Barney Laing

February 22, 1922 — September 21, 2004

Mearl Washingtong Laing, son of James, Sr. & Lilly Marker Laing, was born February 22, 1922, in Tipton, Iowa. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was taken prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge. On March 17, 1948, Mearl was united in marriage to Virginia Lenore Cole, in Lisbon, Iowa. He was a retired farmer and rest area attendant on I-80. Mearl was a member of the Tipton Calvary Foursquare Church, a life member of the VFW and a member of the National Rifle association. Mearl died surrounded by his family members. He is loved and missed by his wife, Virginia Laing, of Tipton, Iowa; his daughters, Bonnie Sue Stutzel, & husband, Ron, of Tipton, Iowa and Linda Lou Brennan, & husband, Richard, of Tipton, Iowa; his son, Jeffery Mearl Laing, & wife, Tari, of Tipton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Lilly Laing; sisters, Daisy Waterman and Mary Schroeder; and his brothers, Bill, Andy, Jim, Earl, Harold, George and John Laing.
