Melba Ann Horstmann

July 29, 1925 — June 11, 2017

Melba Ann Horstmann, 91, of Bennett, peacefully left this earth with her family by her side, Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home, Tipton. Friends and family may gather at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, on Thursday, June 15, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., for a time of visitation. Private graveside service and interment will be held at Inland Cemetery, Bennett, on Friday, June 16, at 11:00 a.m. A memorial fund in Melba's honor has been established. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Melba's life journey began in Bennett on July 29, 1925, where she was born to William "Bill" and Minnie (Walker) Motz. She attended Bennett High School until its burning down during her 11th grade year. Melba was first married to Richard Debner, he was killed in the line of duty during World War II, in France, shortly after they had their baby girl, Pat. She later married Fred Henry Horstmann Sr. and they remained in Bennett where they raised their 4 children: Pat, Susan, Mike and Fred Jr. Melba spent her years as a housewife, crocheting and would also bake special occasion cakes. She was an excellent cook and didn't shy away from trying new, complex recipes. Melba was known for always having the cookie jar full of her famous chocolate chip cookies, for her children and grandchildren. She was also known to enjoy afternoon cocktails with her friends and family, even after moving to Cedar Manor, where Happy Hour Friday's was her favorite time. Surviving Melba are her children, Pat (Marlin) Hillyer of Bennett, Susan (Gilbert) Pewe of New Liberty, Mike (Bev) Horstmann and Fred (Karis) Horstmann Jr, also of Bennett; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren with 2 on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and 1 grandson.
