Michael "Mike" V. Urmie

Mike Urmie, 79, rural Tipton, died peacefully in his home on Sunday afternoon, July 11, 2021, with his family at his bedside. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 15th at 10:30 am, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, with Fr. Richard Okumo, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Fry’s. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Mike, son of Asha and Katherine Ashalley Urmie, was born on June 13, 1942 in Mercy Hospital, Davenport, Iowa.  Mike attended Assumption High School in Davenport and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. On January 11, 1964, Mike was united in marriage to Marge J. Kelley in St. Mary’s Church in Davenport. He was a Red Oak Trustee, Member of the Farm Bureau, Cedar County Coop, River Valley Cooperative. Mike worked as a carpenter who began farming full time back in 1969 and farmed all of his life.

Mike is survived by his wife, Marge, his children; Paul (Joyce) Urmie, Jan (Dick) Spies, Chris (Nancy Gagner) Urmie, Rick (Joanne Georgostathis) Urmie, Matt Urmie, Heather (Stan) Syring, Amanda Urmie, grandchildren; Trevor, Jacob, Ashton, Calista, Margeen, Shon, Corrin, Nick, Madison, Kayla, Jenna and Tristan, great grandchild, Estella. Mike is survived by three sisters and two brothers. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Asha and Katherine Urmie, and his other beloved brothers and sisters.
