Mildred M. Dice, 93, of Tipton, passes away peacefully in her daughter's home while in the care of St. Luke's Hospice following a brief illness on Sunday, August 8th, 2010. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Survivors include her son, Kevin (Linda) Dice of Klemme, Iowa, daughter, Karen (Charles) Bachman of Swisher, Iowa; grandchildren, Thomas (Sarah) Dice, Katherine (Ben) Tickal, Patrick (Heather) Dice, Elizabeth Dice, Matthew (Brandi) Bachman; two great grandchildren, Sophia Dice and Ember Tickal; a sister, Velma Hegarty of Monticello; numerous nieces and nephews, and other loving family members and friends. Millie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hilbert; siblings, Beulah Jones, Earl Achenbach, Charlie Achenbach, Walter Achenbach, Nola Howard and Clara Messner. Born August 17, 1916 at home, in Center Township, Cedar County near Tipton, Iowa.. Mildred was the daughter of Alexander and Mary (Schutt) Achenbach. On August 31, 1940 she was united in marriage to Hilbert N. Dice. He died Feb. 23, 1985. Mildred worked at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1942-1946 then farmed with her husband on a farm near Volga, Iowa until retiring in 1978. Millie enjoyed fishing, RV'ing in the Midwest and wintering in Arizona and Texas until Hib's death then she moved to Tipton where she enjoyed her family, friends, flowers, gardening, embroidery and especially quilting. She was a member of the Tipton Trinity Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A., Esther Circle, 25 year member of Friendship Circle, King's Daughters and Cedar County Piece Makers. Millie always welcomed visitors with a smile and a hearty meal. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Mildred's name to Trinity Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
