Mildred Leone Schlueter

July 10, 1911 — November 24, 2013

Mildred Leone Long Schlueter, 102, of Tipton passed away peacefully Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Cedar Manor in Tipton, IA. A private family graveside service for Mildred will be Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 3pm at Inland Cemetery in Bennett, Iowa. Pastor Tommi Boeder will be officiating. On-line condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Mildred was born July 10, 1911, the daughter of James and Mae Long, in Fredericksburg, Iowa. Her family moved to Cedar County when she was a baby and resided in the area most of her life. Mildred attended Country School until the 8th grade. Mildred married Herman Schlueter on April 4, 1931. They were blessed with 2 children, Gary and Lynet. Mildred and Herman farmed for several years. Mildred always had a big garden which kept her busy with canning; one of those canning projects included 100 + quarts of dill pickles every year. She also liked to cook and bake; baking pies was a specialty of hers. Mildred worked for several restaurants over the years and at Cedar Manor as a dietary aid. She also did general housekeeping for others. Survivors include her son, Gary Schlueter of Tipton, IA; daughter, Lynet DeWulf of Bennett, IA; sisters, Mary Hardisty of Fort Wayne, IN and Claribel Rider of DeWitt, IA; half-sisters, Eleanor Murphy of Anamosa, IA, Barbara Moyer of Central City, IA; step-sister, Ethel Mesocher of Fresno, CA; 3 grandchildren, Kendal (Danny) Edwards, Del (Amy) DeWulf, and Dawn (Jon) Hess; 7 great-grandchildren, Houston, Dixie, Charlotte, Braxton, Kyle, Cole, Ashley, and there is a another great-grandson on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman in 1963; Son-in-law, Darrell DeWulf; brother, Lavern Long; half-brothers, Kenneth Long and Wayne Long; and grandson, Gary Schlueter.
