Nancy Lee, born on October 7, 1940, in Volga, IA, was the daughter of Dorothy Lilly (Borden) Voshell and stepdaughter of Arthur Eneas Voshell. She grew up in Volga, where she graduated from Volga High School in 1958. Later she went on to earn her Bachelor of Art’s degree in Nursing Home Administration from Upper Iowa University. She married Joseph Sampino, having Samantha from that union, but they later divorced. In 1976, Nancy married Gary Harold Demmel in Volga, IA and they later divorced. From their union, they had a daughter Tanya.
Nancy dedicated her professional years to serving as a Nursing Home Administrator, with a heartfelt focus on geriatric healthcare. Her unwavering commitment touched the lives of many elderly individuals and their families. Beyond her role, Nancy actively engaged in community service, affiliating herself with her church and organizations such as the Iowa Healthcare Association, Volunteer Services of Cedar County, Lion’s Club, and Rotary Club of Sioux City, IA.
A woman of faith, Nancy was a longtime member of Volga United Methodist Church. Upon relocating to Tipton, she transferred her membership to Calvary Foursquare Church. Her life journey took her through various places in Iowa—Volga, Forest City, Burlington, Tama, George, Sioux City, Greenfield, and Tipton. Additionally, she lived in California, Ohio, North Dakota, and Missouri. Yet, it was in Volga and Tipton that she found her true sense of home.
Nancy’s legacy will forever be intertwined with her roles as a dedicated mother, passionate healthcare administrator, and tireless advocate for geriatric care. Her absence will be deeply felt by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters, Tanya Demmel of Tipton, IA, and Samantha James of Nicholasville, KY. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her infant sister.
May her memory continue to inspire compassion and service.
