Norman Lee Kotz

Norman Lee Kotz, the son of Bernard and Mildred (Garrison) Kotz, was born January 4, 1934 in Wapello, Iowa. He died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City at the age of eighty-two. Service details are as follows, Visitation: Friday, July 15, 4:00 -7:00 pm, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. There will be a public Scripture Service beginning at 3:30. Funeral mass will be Saturday, July 16, 10:00 am, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tipton, with 1 hour of visitation prior, beginning at 9:00 am. Private graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials in Norman's honor may be directed to Iowa City Hospice and St. Mary's Catholic Church. Norman was a graduate from Tipton High School and attended St. Ambrose College and received his degree from the Wisconsin Banker School. On December 26, 1953 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Johnston at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton. Norman and Marilyn had four children, Kayla, Kim, Kirk and Kortney. He purchased the Bussey Bank in Bussey, Iowa where they made their home until purchasing the Bennett State Bank. They moved to Bennett, Iowa and later to Mechanicsville where they purchased a farm until retiring and moving to Tipton, Iowa where they resided until his death. He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton where he had served as Parish Finance Advisor. He was a member of the 330 Club and the Tipton Golf Club. Norman served on the Bennett School Board for ten years. He loved socializing with all his friends at Hardees. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Tipton; two daughters, Kayla (Wayne) Holst of Wilton. Iowa and Kim (Roger) Wilson of Aledo, Texas; two sons, Kirk (Pamela) Kotz of Tampa, Florida and Kortney (Virginia) Kotz of Mechanicsville, Iowa; a sister, Josephine (Howard) Hensch of Iowa City, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jason (Andrea) Holst, Jaime (Marcus) Kurtz, Jennifer (Nelson) Sears, Kaylee (Nicholas) Wilson, and Clarissa (John) Bruce; and six great grandchildren, Kael, Alana, Kendall, Coden, Camden, Quinten and one more expected to arrive in October. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Kotz.
