Paul, son of Ora Earl and Opal June (Pinkerton) Campbell, was born on Sunday, September 13, 1931 in Warren Indiana. He graduated from Jefferson Township in Huntington, IN. Paul served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. While a majority of his company were stationed in Korea, a few, including Paul, were sent to Germany to secure the border between East and West Germany. After returning to the states, Paul started a lifelong career with Wabash Transformer in Huntington, Indiana. In 1977 he transferred to Tipton, Iowa, where he managed the plant. He was given the opportunity to open and relocate different facilities for the company before his retirement. At a young age Paul was introduced to the world of beekeeping. Of his many hobbies, this was a hobby that he maintained for 60 years. Many lucky people in the community fondly remember the deliciousness of his craft. The quality of the honey he produced met the standards for medical treatment and was purchased by a local hospital to treat burn patients. Many customers benefited from local grown honey that helped with allergies. Athletes also purchased the honey to increase energy while training for competition. Most purchased because they loved honey.
Paul was a self- taught master carpenter. Plans were never sketched on paper; he would think of an idea then build it. Houses were remodeled, wood art created... he really could fix just about anything. Three sons went on to become master carpenters, just like their father. Watching and learning along the way. Paul enjoyed many hobbies and adventures. Whether it be driving to Forest City to pick up the next Winnebago motor home to be delivered, or managing the trailer court in Clarence, Iowa. Meeting at Hardee's or DC Express (Tiger Mart) two times a day with the "coffee club" was seldom missed. But the craziest and most unexpected adventure was to obtain a pilot's license. Paul found out that flying to Indiana and navigating the trip back home could be difficult, so he studied maps in the sky and looked for landmarks to guide the family home. Paul’s last flying adventure was in May of 2013. Flying from the Quad City airport, he traveled with fellow servicemen to Washington, D.C. on the Honor Flight. Paul is survived by his daughter, Jody Schroder (Rusty) of Mechanicsville, IA; sons, Dave Campbell (Jill), of Fort Wayne, IN, Tim Campbell (Keith) of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Gary Campbell (Cathy) of Wellman, IA; grandchildren, Dana Kirby, Dustin Campbell, Tyler Schroeder, Maddie Lemburg, Stephanie Earle, and Skylar Earle; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Haley, Addi, Harper, Cale, Tayton, and Trevor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, Ora and June; son, Steve Campbell; and sister, Devonna Leas.
