Phyllis Twaina LeDoux-Sapp, 80, of Tipton, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 11, 2026.
Phyllis was born January 14, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Hank and Imogene (Aldridge) Ward. She later made her home in Iowa and moved to Tipton in April of 1981. On October 14, 1995, Phyllis was united in marriage to John Edward Sapp in Tipton.
Phyllis had many talents and took great pride in the things she created with her hands. She loved cooking and canning and especially enjoyed sharing family recipes with her children and grandchildren. A gifted seamstress and craftsman, Phyllis spent many hours sewing, knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching. She also had a special talent for upholstery work and enjoyed drawing as well.
Phyllis had a deep love for flowers and gardening. Her favorite color was lilac, and she took great joy in caring for her flower beds, where her carnations and other blooms reflected the care she put into everything she did. Known for her “green thumb,” she created beautiful gardens wherever she lived.
Those who knew Phyllis will remember her spirited personality. She could be a bit of a feisty “she-bear” when it came to protecting those she loved, yet she also had a playful sense of humor and enjoyed the occasional harmless prank. Above all, Phyllis loved her family deeply and treasured the time she spent with them.
Phyllis was a proud lifetime member of the VFW Post 2537 Auxiliary in Tipton. She was also a member of the Cedar County Historical Society.
Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her children: Raymond (Peggy) LeDoux of Clarence, Iowa; Terry (Heather) LeDoux of Tipton, Iowa; Gordon (Jessica) LeDoux of West Branch, Iowa; Gypsy Harshbarger of St. Joseph, Illinois; and Fay (Steve) Kern of Philo, Illinois; along with 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her husband, John Sapp; brother, Hank Ward (Deb); and sisters, Vicki Golden and Penni Whitney (Dan).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hank and Imogene Ward, and her brother, Benjamin Ward.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. At 3:30 p.m., Pastor Ron Lashmit will share a brief service in honor of Phyllis.
Following the gathering, family and friends are invited to continue visiting together at the Tipton VFW.
Cremation will take place following the services.
Memorials may be directed to the Tipton Ambulance, Tipton Police Department, or Tipton Fire Department.
