Raldo Dean Horman, 91, of Tipton, IA, joined his wife Darlene in heaven, on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, while at Cedar Manor Nursing Home. On Thursday, May 4, 2023, Fry Funeral Home will host a Visitation from 4pm – 6pm. On Friday, May 5, 2023, a Funeral officiated by Pastor Kerri Sandusky, will be held at 11:00 am at the First United Church of Christ, Tipton. There will also be a one-hour Visitation prior to the funeral service. Following a luncheon, Raldo will be buried with Military Honors at the St. John’s Cemetery in Clarence, IA, around 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that memorial gifts be written to Cedar Manor with the memo of, “Staff Appreciation- Horman Memorial” and mailed to 1200 Mulberry St. Tipton, IA 52772. Cards for the family may be mailed to 1503 Mulberry St. Tipton, IA 52772

Raldo, son of August and Ella (Beuthien) Horman, was born on Saturday, September 12, 1931, in Bennett, IA. He attended Springfield Township School near Lowden, IA. Raldo served his country in the US Army, notably in combat on Pork Chop Hill during the Korean War. His unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism. Raldo was later interviewed for a book “On Hallowed Ground: The Last Battle of Pork Chop Hill”. Shortly after he returned from service, Raldo took Darlene home from a dance but turned on the wrong country road and became stuck in a snow drift. He decided it was “as good a place as any” and he proposed. Raldo married Darlene Doermann on September 11, 1954 at the St John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, IA. Raldo and Darlene farmed side by side until they retired in 2002. He was active in the FFA and Lion’s Club. Raldo was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, which is the Lion Club’s highest form of recognition. He was a member of the Clarence American Legion Post 286 for over 60 years. Raldo was a prior board member of the Cedar County Senior Citizen’s and was a long-standing past member of the Cedar County Co-op.

Raldo is survived by his daughter, Kathryn (David) Koch of Shawnee, KS; son, Kevin (Sheryl) Horman of Cedar Rapids, IA; sisters, Alice Rowold of Lowden, IA and Erna Rowold of Geneseo, IL; brother, Harold (Mary Louise) Horman of Lowden, IA; sister-in-law, Margaret Doermann of Marion, IA; grandchildren, Alysse Koch of Shawnee, KS, Kelli (Anthony) Gascich of Kansas City, MO, Joel (Kristal) Horman of Cedar Rapids, IA and Julie (Kevin) Quickstad of Forney, TX; and great-grandchildren, Sophie, AJ, Holland, and Eden. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; sisters, Marvella Fehling and Irene Rowold; brothers, Clarence Horman, Earl Horman and Elmer Horman.
