Raymond Charles Deerberg, 91, of Bennett, Iowa, entered eternal rest October 17, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf after a seven year battle with lewy body dementia. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Peace Church of Christ United in Bennett. Friends and relatives may call at the Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, Tuesday, October 20 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Inland Cemetery in Bennett with military rites. Raymond was born May 26, 1924, in Clarence, Iowa, the son of Charles H. and Anna Caroline Maria (Feddersen) Deerberg. Raymond served in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theater. He was a member of the 87th Division, Acorn Company and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and at Ardennes Forest. He received the Good Conduct Medal and various other medals. After returning from the war, he married Marvella Rixe on August 22, 1948. He farmed from 1949 - 1973. After he stopped farming, he worked for Edler Implement and helped his nephew on the farm before completely retiring. He was a member of the Lillis - Deerberg American Legion Post #466 for 69 years and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of Peace Church of Christ United and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Raymond was honored to be able to participate in one of the Honor Flights to Washington D.C. in 2010. He shared this trip with all four of his daughters. He was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Marvella; four daughters, Marlys (Phil) Young of Bristol, Illinois, Karla (Vic) Martinez of Thornton, Colorado, LeaAnn (Tony) Sandoval of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Lonna (Duane) Moeller of New Liberty, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Young, Nicole Padgett, Heather Busse, Ian Wiley, Alicia Roesger and Brooke Moeller; two great-grandchildren, Reid and Lyla Padgett; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Walter, Lorenz, Paul, William and Melvin. Memorials in honor of Raymond should be directed to Peace Church of Christ United or the Bennett Ambulance Service.
