Robert “Bob” Jennings, age 82, unexpectedly took his last breath on August 6th, 2026, in Davenport, Iowa. Recent health complications took this intelligent and stoic man after he fought so bravely and successfully to keep his independence while living with daily chronic pain. He was born on January 19th, 1944, in Tipton, Iowa, to Ruth and Herb Jennings. He graduated from Tipton High School and served in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Tholen on December 12th, 1963. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he returned from Germany with his wife and settled in Davenport to start their family. He worked as an accountant at Alcoa and then changed careers and worked for many years at Caterpillar and then the Rock Island Arsenal as a CNC Machinist. After the passing of his beloved wife in 2004 from cancer, he continued being the backbone of his family while keeping her memory alive. Patricia and Bob dated since 6th grade and once widowed, he said he would never date again because, in his words, no one could ever compare to his beloved Patricia.
His family meant everything to him, and he never met a stranger. He could hold a lengthy conversation about any topic with anyone willing and fortunate enough to listen. He leaves behind to honor his memory his three children, Chad Jennings, Pam (John Casey) Inch, of Eldridge, Iowa, Ryan Jennings, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and a loving grandson, Riley Inch, of Eldridge, Iowa, and granddaughter, Andrea
Holdt-Gerisner of Buffalo, Iowa. Also surviving are his sisters, Mary Lindemann and Ann Murphy, both of Iowa City, Linda Jennings and Donna Terfler, both of Cedar Rapids, and Sharon Pease, of Blairstown, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Ruth Jennings; his wife, Patricia (Tholen); his sister, Virginia Chicchelly; and his three brothers, Dwight, Chuck, and Wally.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14 at 11:00 AM at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, Iowa, with interment at Tipton Masonic Cemetery in Tipton. Visitation is on Thursday, August 13, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Online condolences can be expressed at www.fryfuneralhome.com.
