Robert Joseph Keating, son of Louis Patrick and Grace Cleone Callahan Keating, was born on October 13, 1946 in Cascade, Iowa. Robert attended Loras College in Dubuque and graduataed from the University of California-Berkley. On February 3, 1965 Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He was discharged from active duty on January 31, 1968 and was honorably discharged from the Navy Reserves on February 2, 1971. Robert was a retired San Francisco Policeman and was a policeman for the cities of Wyoming and Postville, Iowa police departments. Robert received the Medal of Valor as a police officer in San Francisco. Robert was a past member of the American Legion, past member of the VFW and the National Auctioneer Association. Robert is survived by his son, Richard Spinale and grandson, Roman of Lincoln, CA; sisters, June Keating of Des Moines, Iowa; Marlene and husband, Dean Schechinger of Papillion, NE; four brothers, Rev. Fr. Michael Keating of Holy Family Parish in Wynot, NE; Tom Keating of Wyoming, IA; Ben Keating and wife Patty of Maquoketa, IA; Steve Keating of Dallas, TX; niece, Nicole Pazona of Wenatche, WA; four nephews, B.J. Keating of Washington, DC; Patrick Keating of Olin, IA; Brandon and Tyler Keating of Maquoketa, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia Keating and infant daughter, Angela Keating. Robert died peacefully in his home in Tipton, Iowa of a lingering illness. He donated his body to the University of Iowa. His cremated remains will be scattered at sea after research and cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church, Temple Hill, Iowa. A lunch will be held at the church following services.
