Robert "Bob" Wayne Skladzien

Robert (Bob) Skladzien, 70, of Maquoketa, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Robert was born August 15th, 1946 to Edwin and Mildred (Shotwell) Skladzien in Tipton, Iowa. He attended Tipton School through the 11th grade before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. After his medical discharge from the Navy, he returned to Tipton. It was there he met the love of his life and later married Beverly Helmold on September 23, 1966. They started their family in Tipton before moving to Maquoketa in 1970. Bob's years of employment after the Navy were spent working as a mechanic before becoming a stay-at-home parent when his youngest child was born. Bob loved working on cars, working outdoors and spending time with his family. Some of his favorite pastimes were watching NASCAR, Cubs baseball and western shows and movies. Bob and his wife were members of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Surviving Bob is his wife of 50 years, Beverly (Helmold) Skladzien; children, Timothy Skladzien of Maquoketa, Patricia Brown of Dubuque, Shawn (Angi) Skladzien of Maquoketa, Samantha (Brandan Green) Skladzien of Maquoketa; brother, Richard Skladzien of AZ; grandkids, Tylor Brown, Abby and Sarah Skladzien, Adriana, Logan, Brandon and Sophia Skladzien; grand-puppy, Nora Ann Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald Skladzien and granddaughter Alexandra Brown.
