Robert “Bob” Wayne Wright, 73, of West Branch, died at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, on Sunday evening, May 10, 2020. A private family funeral service will be at Fry Funeral Home on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 11:00 am followed by a private graveside service with full military honors at Honey Grove Cemetery in West Branch. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all cards and memorials be mailed in c/o Judy Wright to 1434 Plato Rd. West Branch, Iowa 52358. You are invited to share online condolences on www.fryfuneralhome.com Bob, son of William (Bill) H. and Emma (Osterkamp) Wright was born on Monday, March 17, 1947 in Iowa City, Iowa and attended High School in West Branch. Bob was a Vietnam War Veteran. He entered the US Army on August 2, 1966 and was honorably discharged with the rank of SP5 on May 10, 1969. Bob supported his country during the Vietnam War as a Heavy Vehicle Driver for which he received a Letter of Commendation and a Certificate of Safety from the Army for his exceptional performance. After his return to the states, Bob proposed to the love of his life, Judy Kay Murray.  They were joined in marriage on October 11, 1969 at the United Church of Christ in Tipton, Iowa.  Throughout his adult life, Bob owned and operated his business- Bob Wright Excavating and Bulldozing. In his leisure, Bob was an avid hunter, made several fishing trips to Canada, spent countless hours in the woods foraging morel mushrooms and was a loyal NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed: watching and learning from various cooking shows, the Gunsmoke, Bonanza and Mountain Men series, and anything starring John Wayne. Above all, the time he spent preparing delicious meals for his family is what he valued most. Bob is survived by his wife, Judy Wright of West Branch, IA; three children, Trent Wright of West Branch, IA, Michael Wright of Iowa city, IA and Michelle (Jay) Bierman of Wilton, IA; sister, Marg (Don) Folkerts of Anamosa, IA; two brothers, Bruce (Trudy) Wright of Atalissa, IA, Steve Wright of West Branch, IA, and one grandson, Zachary Ahrens of Stanwood, IA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Mary Wright; parents, Bill and Emma Wright, brother, Randy Wright; and nephew, Luke Wright.
