TIPTON, Iowa - Roderick "Rod" Daebelliehn passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 in the comfort of his home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 15 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tipton. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, November 14 at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton with a public rosary to begin at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tipton, with military honors. Roderick Oliver Daebelliehn was born Dec. 7, 1939, to Frank and Norma (Brandt) Daebelliehn in Moline. He was united in marriage on May 27, 1972, to Jerri (Bender) Waddell and created a blended family like no other. He previously was married to Bonnie Meyer. After attending Moline High School, Rod entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1956 - at a younger than enlistment age. He served six years, but was always a Marine. He worked 41 years at John Deere, retiring from Product Development in Silvis. Proud of his new home in Tipton, Rod served as a volunteer fireman for 10 years, as a city councilman from 1984 to 1999, and was still a member of the Planning and Zoning Board. He served three times as president of the Tipton Country Club. Rod served on St. Mary's Church Council and with his wife, volunteered as a Eucharistic minister to take Communion to homebound Catholics. After receiving the gift of an Honor Flight guardianship from his family for his 75th birthday, he founded Cedar County Honor Flight. Those efforts sent 65 Cedar County veterans and guardians on an Honor Flight in 2011. He was honored to be the Grand Marshal in this year's Tipton 4th of July Parade. Rod proudly carried the nickname of Rotten for his abilities on the golf course. Able to fix anything, he had a Dubby Will Do It handy-man service. Rod was the patriarch of a family that was the shining example of how two families can become one. Survivors include the love of his life, his wife Jerri; children, Julie (Brad) Wuertz, Bettendorf; Jennifer (John) DeWitt, Moline; Rod (Jana) Daebelliehn, Folsom, Calif.; Jon (Susan) Waddell, Davenport; and Jessica Daebelliehn, Tipton; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
