Siegfried Petersen

Siegfried Petersen, son of J. S. and Martha Iwersen Petersen, was born on January 16, 1909 in Hattstedt, Germany. He attended school in Germany. Siegfried served in the United States Army Air Force from February19, 1942 until honorably discharged on October 16, 1945. Siegfried received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars. one Service Stripe, six overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal. Siegfried began farming in the Bennett area in 1946 and continued until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the American Legion, Community Club and the Peace Church of Christ United in Bennett, Iowa. Siegfried is survived by his nephew, Carl Petersen and wife, Lena of Jonesboro, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters. Siegfried has donated his body to medical research at the University of Iowa. His mortal remains will be laid to rest at a later date.
