Stella Grace Naber was born July 3, 1915 to Henry and Grace Van der Lann Naber in Muscatine County, Iowa. Stella lived in Muscatine until 1931 when her mother passed away and she then moved to Tipton to live with her brother, William Naber and family. Stella graduated from Tipton High School in 1934. On January 22, 1938, Stella was united in marriage to J. Prentice York at the home of her sister, Jennie Raushenberger in Clinton, Iowa. They farmed near Tipton until 1968 when they moved into Tipton. In 1962 she joined her brother in his real estate and insurance business. She received her Iowa Real Estate license in 1967 and in 1975 she and her husband formed the York Real Estate and Insurance business. Being in business she was very interested in the Tipton business community. She was a member of the Tipton Chamber of Commerce serving in 1976 and 1977 as the Civic Director. She was also a member of the Tipton Business and Professional Women. She served for 25 years as Cedar County Memorial Chair for the American Cancer Society and was a former teacher, chair member of the Women's Guild of the United Church of Christ and was a member of the Tipton Women's Golf Club, a volunteer at Cedar Manor for 12 years and also a member of the Tipton Federated Garden Club. Stella is survived by her husband, J. Prentice York of Tipton, Iowa, her two sons, Jerry (Carol) York of Cape May, NJ and Phillip York of Lonita, CA; grandson, Dr. Aaron York and wife, Daisy Rockwell of Lebanon, NH and granddaughter, Gillian (Butch) Marcello of Robinsville, NJ; great granddaughter, Seratina Rose York. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers and 1 sister whom she dearly loved.
