Funeral services for Thomas James Walshire, 74, of Mechanicsville, who died Friday, June 7, 2013 will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, with Father David Hitch officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Fry Funeral in Tipton, with a rosary at 3:30 P.M. Burial will be in the Mechanicsville Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the American Legion. Online condolences and photos may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Thomas was born on April 25, 1939 in Mechanicsville, Iowa. He was the son of Edward "Ted" and Elsie (Hudachek) Walshire. He was a graduate of the Mechanicsville High School. He was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed collecting antique tractors and was an enthusiast of tractor pulling and thoroughbred race horses. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam era. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, and the American Legion. Thomas is survived by his brother, Everette (Evelyn) Walshire of Mechanicsville; his sister, Louise (Edward) Poduska of Mechanicsville, several nephews, and by his special friend, Elaine Hoy and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lewis Walshire. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory.
