Vera Rice

Vera Emma Schaefer, daughter of Charles and Anna Kramermeier Schaefer, was born on October 27, 1923 in Buena Vista County, Iowa. She attended schools in Storm Lake, Iowa. Vera was united in marriage to George Henry Rice. He died in 1977. Vera loved to clean houses and enjoyed folding clothes, tasks that most of us avoid if at all possible. She worked in restaurants and motels as a housekeeper. Vera found her residence in the Van Buren County Home in Keosauqua. In 1974 she moved to the Cedar County Care Facility and became a resident of Cedar Manor Nursing Home on May 5, 1998. Vera died peacefully on Friday, June 4th at 2:30 in the afternoon. Vera is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Dr. Pam Rice and their children, Anthony, Alexander and Alison, all of Brainerd, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Elmer Schaefer. Vera will be laid to rest in next to her husband in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery on Wednesday, June 9.
