Leota Viola Gritton, 99, died 8:55 am on Monday, October 30, 2006 in the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, Iowa. Viola was born on April 19, 1907 in Cedar County, Iowa and was the daughter of John Clarence and Lucy Elizabeth Whitmer Ford. Viola attended country school and was a member of the Methodist faith. On December 20, 1940 Viola was united in marriage to Clarence Norman Gritton in Cedar County. They made there home in Tipton. Viola loved to work cleaning homes and doing yard work. She was also gifted with raising african violets. Her pride and joy was going back and forth to her twin sisters farm home near Bennett. Viola and Violet were not only twin sisters but they were also best friends. Viola is survived by two sisters, Genevieve Meixner of Atalissa, Iowa and Ellen Myers of Davenport, Iowa; her brother, Charles Ford who is currently in assisted living in Iowa City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews, including her special caregiving niece, Marie Fry, of Wilton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on February 14, 2001; her sisters, Violet Pohlmann, Bertha Proctor, Nellie Schneider; her brothers, Dan Ford, Peter Ford, Frank Ford, Lawrence Ford and Jack Ford.
