Willard Leroy Gaunt

Willard LeRoy Gaunt, 83, of Tipton, Iowa, peacefully passed away on September 27, 2024, surrounded by his family at home. Graveside services to honor Willard’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Red Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Tipton, with the Rev. Ronald Lashmit officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to Fry Funeral Home, PO Box 30, Tipton, IA. Willard was born on August 1, 1941, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA, to Robert Forest Gaunt and Lata Viola (Hines) Gaunt.

On June 11, 1964, Willard married the love of his life, Frances Eilane Barkalow, in Tipton, IA. Together, they raised six sons: Neil, Rick, Stan, Robert, Doug, and Steve. Willard dedicated nearly 40 years of hard work to West Liberty Foods (previously Louis Rich), providing for his family and ensuring their well-being.

In his free time, Willard enjoyed fishing, finding solace in the quiet moments by the water. He was an active member of Calvary Four Square Church in Tipton, IA. When Frances passed away on March 30, 2016, it left a void in his heart; she was not only his wife but also his best friend. In the days leading up to his own passing, Willard spoke of seeing her presence in the room, a comforting sign of their enduring connection.

Willard is survived by his sons, Neil (Robin) Gaunt of Muscatine, Rick (Kristy) Gaunt of Cedar Rapids, Stan (DeeDee) Gaunt of Colorado, Robert Gaunt of Davenport, Doug Gaunt of Tipton, and Steve (Jennifer) Gaunt of Tipton, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two sisters, Viola and Marie.

On September 27, 2024 Willard was embraced by his wife, Frances, who welcomed him into eternity, along with his parents and brother, Harry.
