William “Bill” Henry Coiner, age 83, of rural Cedar County, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, with his beloved wife Maxine by his side.

Born on March 14, 1942, in rural Cedar County, Bill was the son of Alva and Anna (Brinkman) Coiner. He grew up alongside his brother Robert “Punk” and sisters Doris “Suzie” and Annette, attending country school and later Tipton High School. A lifelong member of Rochester Methodist Church, Bill’s faith and work ethic were cornerstones of his character.

Bill married Sandra Kay Albaugh in 1962, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and enterprise. Over their 50 years of marriage, they raised three children—Kimberly, Michaela, and Michael—and pursued numerous ventures, including a craft business and an ice cream enterprise that took them across the country. Their shirts and sweet treats brought joy to many, and their partnership was a testament to devotion and resilience. After retiring from their business in 2007, Bill and Sandra moved to Yuma, Arizona, where the desert air brought Sandra renewed health until her passing from cancer in 2011.

In 2013, Bill found love again with Margaret “Maxine” (Emerson) Miller, a cherished friend from his youth. Their bond, rooted in shared memories and mutual care, blossomed into a marriage that brought comfort and companionship in his later years.

Bill’s professional life was marked by tireless dedication. He began working during high school at Royal Blue Grocery and Kallenberger Grain in Tipton, followed by Thatcher Plastic Packaging in Muscatine, and eventually GPC, where he spent over 30 years before retiring. Never one to sit idle, Bill also held second and third jobs—installing grain bins, landscaping, and running his own cement business. His hands were never still, and his heart was always committed to providing for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sandra; his brother Robert; his daughters Michaela Meyer and Kimberly Pestle; his sister Annette (Coiner) Hansen; his sister-in-law Sherry Emerson; and his grandparents. He is survived by his wife Maxine; his son Michael (Julie) Coiner of Davenport; his son-in-law Tim Meyer of Walcott; sister Suzie (Merlyn) Gronewald of Waterville; brothers-in-law Ronald Emerson of Camanche and Glenn (Brenda) Emerson of Clarksville, Tennessee; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.

Bill was known for his strength, resourcefulness, and unwavering work ethic. He was a man who could build, fix, and create—whether it was a cement foundation, a custom shirt, or a life filled with purpose. His niece Teri once wrote, “You are an amazing man. The kindness in your heart is beautiful… It’s my great pleasure to call you uncle.” That sentiment echoes in the hearts of all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 12, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at Tipton Masonic Cemetery, and a luncheon will be held at the VFW. Service music will include “My Old Man” and “Iowa Waltz,” reflecting Bill’s deep roots and enduring spirit.
