William "Bill" Burse Trevathan, 87, of Tipton, Iowa, died peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2013 in Cedar Manor Nursing Home. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at the First United Church of Christ in Tipton, Pastor David Lorenzen, officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 am prior to the services. Memorials may be donated to Cedar Manor Nursing Home, the Tipton Lions Club, the First United Church of Christ or the Tipton Ambulance. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Bill was born on July 1, 1926 in Columbus, Kentucky, son of William Burse and Nannie Bell Williams Trevathan. Bill graduated from East Prairie High School in East Prairie, MO and then graduated with a B. S. in Voc-Ag from the University of Missouri. Bill served his country in the US Army in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater during WWII. Bill worked as a Voc-Ag teacher and then worked for Farm Bureau Insurance as a Regional Manager until his retirement. Bill was united in marriage to Mary Ann Merrick and later married Betty Jean Reuter-Vitense. Bill was a member of the First United Church of Christ, the Tipton Lions Club, and a past member of the VFW. He loved hunting, fishing and helping others. Bill is survived by his son, Stan Burse Trevathan and grandson, Taylor & Trenton Trevathan of Richmond, Texas; Step-children, Valnora (Kelvin) Keifer of Charles City, Iowa, Raymond (Barbara) Vitense of Tipton, Iowa, Molly Vitense of Clarence, Iowa, Jayne Holcomb of Ames, Iowa, and Mandy Vitense of Omaha, Nebraska; 12 Step-grandchildren and 3 Step Great Grandchildren; caregivers and close friends, Dr. Mark and Sharon Niles and Ken Muller of Tipton. Fry Funeral Home is assisting the family with the service to honor his life.
