Chuck was born on Friday, January 30, 1948, to Ervin and Betty Mae (Fisher) Johnson in Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated from Stanwood Lincoln High School in 1966, but he had already taken over his family’s farm since he was 15 years old. On August 23, 1965, Chuck married the love of his life, Betty Jean Clark, at St. Mary’s Church in Mechanicsville, IA and they farmed together for over 50 years. Chuck and Betty farmed dairy cows, beef cattle, ‘row crops’ and hay. Their dairy farm produced Grade A milk from an eight-stanchion barn. Charlie entertained many groups of preschoolers to Johnson's dairy farm as part of their school field trip. Chuck and Betty retired from the dairy farm in 2018, but continued to raise beef cattle, row crops and hay.
Even though he could be a prankster, Chuck taught his children how to work hard and be responsible. Chuck loved to visit and socialize. He had friends everywhere. When not working, he enjoyed wearing bib-overalls, feeding his farm cats, and taking his dogs, Patches and Bob, “The Boys”, out for daily rides around the farm in his side by side.
Chuck is survived by his daughters, Terri Jo Lawless of Independence, IA and Tina (Robert) Hanks of Mechanicsville, IA; sisters, Colleen Svoboda of Mechanicsville, IA and Carla (Dave) Barnhart of Mechanicsville, IA; brothers, Cletus (Alberta) Johnson of Mechanicsville, IA; brother-in-law, Jim (Mary) Clark of Tipton, IA; and grandchildren, Taylor Ciha, Luke Lawless, Trevor Hanks, and Trent Hanks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Betty Mae; wife, Betty Jean; brother-in-law, Chuck Svoboda; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Evelyn Clark; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Joyce Jackson; and son-in-law, Dave Lawless.
