Donalee, daughter of Samuel Carlton and Winefred Alice (Jamison) Armstrong, was born on Thursday, May 9, 1935 in Anamosa, IA. She graduated with the Stanwood High School Class of 1953. Donalee met Verlon Charles Weaver at a Highway Gardens dance and he stole her heart away. After his return from the Korean war, they were joined in marriage on November 24, 1954, at the Tipton Presbyterian Church (now the First UCC Tipton). Until Verlon’s death in 2008, Donalee and Verlon enjoyed going to dances on Saturday nights, traveling the country, and attending neighborhood card parties.
Donalee was Food Service Supervisor at the Cedar County Home for over 18 years, after which she cooked for the West Branch School system and Tipton’s Cedar County Senior Dining Center.  She volunteered at the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center and was a regular blood donor herself. Donalee loved cooking, baking, and trying new recipes.  She was known for her homemade kolaches and dinner rolls.  Donalee loved crocheting and embroidery and always had several new projects in the works.  She was an avid fan of country music and the Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball teams. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Land Improvement Contractors Association, Women of the Moose, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Donalee is survived by her daughter, Becky (James) Klein of West Branch, IA; son, Randall (Linda) Weaver of Tipton, IA; sisters, Ruthetta Mitchell and Carla Kay Erickson; 5 grandchildren, Jessica Olson, Cody & Glendon Klein, and Mallory & Laura Weaver; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Alice Armstrong; husband, Verlon; and infant sister, Evelyn D. Armstrong.
