Dwain Meyer Obituary

Dwain Fredrick Meyer, 94, of Tipton, died peacefully on Saturday, April 10, 2021 in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at 1:00 PM, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, Pastor Scott Meyer officiating, and a public visitation will be held prior to the funeral from noon to 1:00 PM.  Burial with full military rites will follow the funeral in the Inland Cemetery, Bennett. Pallbearers will be Jim Brendes, Lori Meyer, Linda Meyer, Danny Meyer, Todd Miller and Joe Griebat.  A memorial fund has been established for the Bennett American Legion and the Peace Church. Proceeds may be mailed to the attention of Todd Miller, 1109 Daybreak Ridge, Tipton, Iowa 52772.  Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com.

Dwain was born on March 9, 1927 in Lowden, Iowa. He was the son of Diedrich Johan and Meta Minnie Schlueter Meyer. He attended country school at #3 and #5 and Lowden High School. Dwain served his country by enlisting in the United States Army from December 5, 1950 to November 8, 1952. Dwain was a farmer and “Sarge” worked for Cedar County Road Maintenance as a Grader Operator from 1961 to 1990. He enjoyed helping his family with any project that might come along, gardening, fishing and enjoyed winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. Dwain was a member of the Peach Church of Christ United in Bennett and the Bennett American Legion.

Dwain is survived by his sisters, Jeannette Brendes and Betty Ann Miller of Clarence, Iowa; brother, Harlan (Shirley) Meyer of Stanwood, Iowa; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews including his buddies, Slater, Hayden, Holden and Shelby Griebat. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Robert Brendes, brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Joan) Meyer of Clarence, great niece, Melissa Ann Brendes, great nephew, Quentin Coppess,  and his brothers-in-law, Ralph Brendes and John T. Miller.
