Edith “Edie” Rose Steffen, daughter of Hugo and Tillie (Edler) Thoeming was born near Lowden, Iowa on July 3, 1926. She attended country school and then her folks moved to Conesville where she graduated in 1943. She was united in marriage with Earl V. Steffen of Tipton on March 21, 1947. Edith worked at Schultz Bros. 5&10 and then in 1960 she started at First National Bank in Tipton (now Citizens Savings Bank), retiring on 2-27-08 after 47 years. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family. She was able to travel with her daughter and son-in-law, Branson being her favorite destination.
Edie is survived by her daughter Susan (Thomas) Kochheiser of Huxley, Iowa, and son Michael (Julie) Steffen of Tipton; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; her sister, Shirley Thumm of Mt. Vernon; sister-in-law Eleanor Thoeming of Tipton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1993; her parents and grandparents; and brother, Wilbert “Webb” Thoeming.
A memorial for Cedar Manor Nursing home has been established in Edith Steffen’s name.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 21, 2022 and Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 am at First United Church of Christ, 600 Mulberry St., Tipton.
