Elmer was born March 29, 1924 in Clinton County, the son of William E. and Lucy C. (Stahl) Kunde. He graduated from Tipton High School in 1942 and went on to attend the Tipton Jr. College until it was closed due to the war. Elmer married the love of his life, Dolores Thiering on May 25, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Elmer began his working years as a farmer and would continue to do so until 1969. He continued working with farm equipment by owning and operating K&K Farm equipment (John Deere dealer), until 1978. He then became a salesman for Case IH (the switch from green to red wasn’t an easy one for Elmer), before retiring at the age of 65. After retirement, Elmer stayed active fishing and golfing, building numerous ramps with the Lions Club, mowing and planting trees, and traveling to Florida with his wife and friends. Elmer was dedicated to his church, Trinity Lutheran, where he was a member for 80 years. He was instrumental in building the new church and served on council and in maintaining the building. He was also a member of the Tipton Country Club, Moose Lodge 730, and the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife Dolores Kunde; daughter Debra (Michael) Cook of Tipton; sons Richard (Bonnie) Kunde of WI, Dale (Cindy)Kunde of Tipton; grandchildren Erin Kunde, Derrick Kunde (Betty Heslop), Kelly (Michael) Thomas, Jeremy (Erin Petersen) Cook, Rebecca (Scott) Sammons and Jennifer (Kasey) Keltner; six great-grandchildren.
