Irene Elsie (Horman) Rowold

Irene Elsie Rowold, 93, of Tipton, entered into eternity on Wednesday, February 2, 2021, while under the care of Hospice at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, IA. 
On Monday, February 8, 2021, Fry Funeral Home will be hosting a private, family only Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Irene will then be laid to rest in the Lowden Cemetery, Lowden, IA.

Irene, daughter of August and Ella (Beuthien) Horman, was born on Tuesday, January 3, 1928 in rural Bennett, IA. While at a dance, Irene met the love of her life, Lester Otto Rowold.  He proposed to her on Christmas Eve, 1947. After being joined in marriage on June 13, 1948, in Lowden, IA, Irene and Lester were blessed with three sons, Everett, Dennis and Steve. Irene and Lester raised their family on a farm southwest of Lowden, where they also raised livestock and farmed crops together until Lester’s death in 1973. 
In 1975, Irene and her son, Steve, moved to Tipton. While in Tipton, Irene waitressed for approx. 23 years (1975- 1998). Irene waitressed at the Redwood Restaurant, the Feed Bag Restaurant and the Maid Rite. Irene had a strong Christian faith and attended Cedar Street Baptist Church, Tipton, IA. Up until age 89, Irene loved gardening her flower beds and walking 4 miles a day around Tipton. Family and friends knew her for her quick wit, fast comebacks, great sense of humor and love for her family, especially her grandchildren.
Irene is survived by, sons, Everett Rowold (Theresa Crist) of Walcott, IA, Dennis Rowold (Pam Lind) of Wyanett, IL and Steven (Dawn) Rowold of Tipton, IA; sisters, Alice Rowold of Lowden, IA, and Erna Rowold of Geneseo, IL; brothers, Harold (Mary Louise) Horman of Lowden, IA and Raldo Horman of Tipton, IA; grandchildren, Derek Rowold, Matthew Rowold, Jody Nightingale and Chelsey Lind; and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Ella; husband, Lester; sister, Marvella Fehling; brothers, Clarence Horman, Elmer Horman and Earl Horman; nephews, Charles Fehling and Darwin Rowold; sisters-in-law, Darlene Horman and Mabel Horman; and brothers-in-law, Harold Fehling, Merle Rowold and Gerald Rowold.
