She graduated from Davenport North High School with the Class of 2000, obtained her B. A. in Secondary Mathematics Education at the University of Northern Iowa in 2004 and then earned her Master of Arts in Education at Ashford University in 2011. Jen was a math teacher at Price Lab School in Cedar Falls, North-west Junior High and West High School in Iowa City, and for the past 12 years at Tipton High School where she was also a model/mentor teacher, student council advisor, driver education instructor, and volleyball coach. Jen was united in marriage to Jeremiah Dustin ‘Dusty’ Johnson on November 11, 2006 in Waterloo, Iowa. She and Dusty were faithful members of the Tipton United Methodist Church.
Jen enjoyed playing games with her family, socializing with friends, singing, cooking, teaching, and coaching. She was a selfless mother, wife, daughter, and friend. She worked tirelessly to help her students and athletes succeed; not just with school, but in life. Her hobby was building deep, meaningful friendships that will last forever.
Tipton has lost a quintessential member of our community. The loss of Jennifer Johnson reminds us that whether our uncertain road of life is long or short, every word we speak, every interaction we have, no matter how few or how many; will leave an indelible mark on the souls of those we encounter. Jennifer chose to focus on what is beautiful and helpful. She lived her life devoted to blessing and encouraging others.
Jen is survived by her husband, Dusty and their children, Lily (7) and Noah (11); her parents, Sue and Dave Sunstrom and Mark and Deb Burton; twin brother, Eric (Marie) Burton and step sib-lings, Tracy (Scott) Colter, Kristi (Dan) Diehl and Mike (Sarah) Sunstrom; grandparents Irene Mersch, Elnora Burton, Rose Klak, and Clyde Boyd; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and treasured nieces and nephews too numerous to mention by name.
