John Ervin Ellerhoff

September 25, 1952 ~ February 7, 2022 (age 69)


John Ervin Ellerhoff, 69, of Eldridge, Iowa, passed away of colon cancer on Monday evening, February 7, 2022, with family present, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. A visitation will be held at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 1-3 p.m. The private family graveside service will be held at a later date with burial to be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Adair, Iowa. John was born on Thursday, September 25, 1952, to Roy and Eldora (Jipp) Ellerhoff in Iowa City, Iowa. In 1970, he graduated from Bedford Community High School in Bedford, Iowa. In 1975, John graduated with a B.S. in Engineering from The University of Iowa (College of Engineering in Civil Engineering) in Iowa City, Iowa. He later earned his Professional Engineer (PE) designation as well. 
John is survived by his brothers and sisters: Rose Ann Bell of Marion, Iowa; Roger (Jeannie) Ellerhoff of Iowa City, Iowa; Norman (Betty) Ellerhoff of Tipton, Iowa; and Linda (Rod) Haag of Pueblo, Colorado; nephews and niece: Adam (Rhiannon) Ellerhoff of Tipton, Iowa; Amber (Seth) Talbot of Fairfield, Iowa; and James Bell of Marion, Iowa; and several great-nephews and a great-niece. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, great-uncle, great-aunts, uncles, aunts, a brother-in-law, and a former sister-in-law. 
John had a long engineering career spanning nearly 46 years. He was a civilian employee for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Rock Island District for over 26 years. He worked primarily as a structural engineer there. His prior employment included Clinton County Engineer, an engineer for Scott County, and several other engineering positions. John was an avid train enthusiast and held active memberships in several railroad groups and societies. He also enjoyed photography.
