LaVern Louis Cook, 96, of Lisbon, entered eternity early Sunday morning, August 15, 2021, while under the care of the Solon Nursing Home. A time of visitation and sharing life stories will be held on Tuesday, August 17th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. LaVern’s wishes were to be cremated. Private family burial will be held at a future date in the Lisbon City Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Should friends so choose, a memorial fund has been established in LaVern’s memory and those cards may be sent to Ronald Cook, 3072 160th Avenue, Mechanicsville, Iowa 52306.
LaVern was born on March 15, 1925 on the homeplace outside of Lisbon, Iowa. LaVern was the son of John Louis Cook and Ivory (Achey) Cook. LaVern attended the Prairie Bell Country School through the 8th grade (and yes, he had to walk up hill both ways!) and graduated from the Lisbon High School with the Class of 1943. On December 9, 1945, LaVern was united in marriage to Geneva Maureen Cave in the United Methodist Church in Lisbon. LaVern was a farmer all of his life and was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Cedar County Cattleman’s Association. LaVern loved the land, planting and harvesting the crops and tending to his beautiful Angus cattle.
LaVern is lovingly survived by his two sons, Ronald and Bonnie Cook and Russell and Dianne Cook, all of Mechanicsville, Iowa; his granddaughter, Kellie and Jason Arduser of Monticello, Iowa and their children, Kyle and Kayla. LaVern was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Geneva in 2004; sister, Marguriete Pieper in 2014 and his brother Arnold who died in infancy.
Thank you to the caring staff of the Solon Nursing Home and the Iowa City Hospice.
