Obituary

Leo Gene Ford, 77, Rochester, IA, entered eternity on Saturday evening, November 21, 2020, while under the care of Iowa City Hospice, at his home and with family by his side. A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, IA. Attendees will be expected to abide by the following current COVID rules: 1) groups that arrive together stay together, 2) individual groups remain six feet apart from other groups, and 3) each individual is required to wear a mask.

Leo, son of James Franklin and Dorothy Maxine (Horn) Ford was born on Saturday, October 2, 1943, in Iowa City, IA. He attended Rochester School and Tipton High School.  From 1966 – 1972, Leo served his country in the US Army. In 1966, he was trained in combat engineering. As part of the 552nd Battalion 1st Engineer Brigade, Leo built bridges while stationed in Germany and France until 1968 and was Honorably discharged in 1972 after four years of Army Reserve status. 
Leo and Sharon Kay Hubler were united in marriage on June 19, 1970 in Aledo, Illinois. They were blessed with a happy marriage and two daughters; Sheila and Leanne. Leo lived in Rochester, IA his whole life. He worked at Rochester Sawmills, Walnut Grove and Cargill Feed Plant in West Liberty, HWH and Xerxes in Tipton, IA. He was a member of the Rochester Methodist Church. Family describes Leo as a very talented man- “able to do just about anything”. He loved the outdoors, gardening and the four seasons. He was a carpenter, remodeler and sportsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and everything in between.
Leo loved the three women in his life and loved them enough to teach them to be discerning, insightful and fearless. He especially enjoyed raising his grandkids, teaching them the most valuable life lessons that he had learned over the years. Leo loved to spend time with family and friends, he enjoyed life. 
Leo is survived by the love of his life, Sharon; daughters, Sheila Ford (Joe) McDonald of Rochester, IA and Leanne Ford (Brad) Pasvogel of Clovis, CA; sisters, Donna Salyers of Rochester, IA and Rhonda (Jim) Driscoll of Wilton, IA; brothers, Herb Ford of Rochester, IA and Doug (Kathy) Ford of Rochester, IA; and grandchildren, Katlyn Renee Ford, Braxon Allen Gene Ford, Bryce Ryan Pasvogel, Breonna Genel’le Pasvogel and Dalton Leo Pasvogel.
He was preceded in death by parents James and Dorothy Ford; and brothers, Eldon Ford and Wayne Ford.
